Women’s Policy Journal of

Summer 2002 (Volume 2): Dimensions of International
Security: The Role of Women in Global Conflict Resolution,
International Development and Human Rights
Description of Issue
The prevailing view of women’s contributions to
global conflict resolution, international development and
human rights policy has often been limited to situations
involving abuse and victimization. Despite this perception,
women have been key players in creating and implementing
public policies that address the broad spectrum of national
and international security concerns. As coalition-based
security organizations and individual nation-states confront
conflicts around the world, women policy activists and
community leaders will continue to play an integral role in
both conflict prevention and conflict resolution. The second
edition of the Women’s Policy Journal of Harvard, John F.
Kennedy School of Government, highlights the contributions of
women to international security and explores new ways for them
to positively impact global conflict resolution, international
development and human rights policy.
