A Survey of Nongovernmental Organization Programs Serving Women in Afghanistan

“For the first time, I’m seeing women standing alongside women, protecting each other, defending each other. There is a women’s conscience developing in Afghanistan, and a grassroots movement that is allowing women to be active in the political process that didn’t exist before. Before, there was simply a minority of elite women at the top, with no structure behind them. The political processes we’ve put in place have allowed the emergence of a grassroots movement, allowing women solidarity and strength.”
