The Master’s Concentration in Gender Studies at HGSE is designed for students interested in exploring the relationship between gender, psychosocial development, education, and culture. Gender Studies is housed within the area of Human Development and Psychology (HDP), which has long been committed to understanding how culture, gender, race, ethnicity, sexual preference, and socioeconomic class influence human development and education. Through the concentration, students will examine the conceptual and methodological issues that arise when gender is a voiced rather than a tacit element of research and practice.

Students with interests in psychological research may seek a knowledge base in gender as preparation for doctoral admission, coursework, and research. Students with interests in educational practice, policy, and social inequality may draw on the concentration to gain a gendered perspective on their teaching, administration, and analyses. Additionally, students with backgrounds in clinical practice or intervention may focus on gaining knowledge and critical perspectives on gender in order to inform their post-graduate work.
