Obtaining an application for admission

Applicants who are applying for admission to the Social Policy Ph.D. programs utilize the Harvard Graduate School of Arts and Sciences (GSAS) application for admission, not the Kennedy School of Government application. The GSAS application information should be obtained by consulting the following web links:

:: GSAS admissions information
All applicants should first read the GSAS admissions information for prospective graduate students, which carefully detail the requirements and procedures to file an application for admission.

:: GSAS on-line application
The Graduate School encourages online submission of the application. The applicant creates an online account, to which he or she may return to work periodically, and then submits the final application electronically to Harvard.

OR
:: Request a hardcopy of the GSAS application
Applicants who wish to request a hardcopy application may submit a request for materials at the link above. The hardcopy application can only be obtained from the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences.

Byerly Hall, home to the GSAS Admissions Office

GSAS program description booklets

Applicants may view the Ph.D. program description booklets, which detail specific degree program requirements for Social Policy and other GSAS Ph.D. Programs. By their nature, the program description booklets tend to focus on rules and procedures, whereas the Social Policy brochure (described below) devotes additional space to the substantive content of the program. The formal program description booklets are available in two distinct formats:

:: Degree program web pages
GSAS maintains an alphabetical list of degree program descriptions. Readers may select the Social Policy program description or browse other Harvard GSAS Ph.D. programs.

OR
:: View/print program booklets in PDF format
Alternatively, the GSAS program description booklets may be viewed or downloaded in PDF format. Separate booklets are available for the humanities, natural sciences, and social sciences. Social Policy will found in the social sciences booklet.

Brochure for the Ph.D. Programs in Social Policy

A PDF version of the Social Policy brochure will be available shortly for those who wish to have a printable version of the information on this web site. In contrast to the GSAS program description booklets, which enumerate degree program rules and requirements, the brochure is designed to give prospective applicants more of an overall feel for the program.

Applicants will note that the brochure essentially duplicates key sections of our web site. The brochure is designed to summarize key points about the Social Policy curriculum and nature of graduate student life in the program that prospective students would want to know. It will not contain new information that is not already available elsewhere on this site.

Please check back soon for Social Policy PDF brochure.
