WHAT'S NEW?
The South Asia Caucus at the Kennedy School of Government is developing a proposal for establishment of a formal project at Harvard for the Study of Conflict and Cooperation in South Asia.
The project will begin with public seminars on one of the more prominent issues facing South Asia: conflict between India and Pakistan over Kashmir.
We are also proposing seminars on ethnic conflict in Sri Lanka, nuclear weapons in South Asia, and transnational issues such as drugs, immigration, child labor, and human rights, just to name some of the issues that need attention.
I am writing to request the assistance of all the South Asian students in the area to help us formulate the best possible proposal that we can.
To that end, I would appreciate it if you can pass this email on to the members of your respective organizations, and to other people outside the Boston area (nationally and internationally), and request feedback on the following:
If you have contact info of any type for these people, I would really appreciate it if you can forward it to me. We especially need info about experts on the Kashmir and Sri Lanka issues, since those will be the first seminars that we are planning to hold during this semester.
Ultimately, we will put together this list of academic and professional
resources as an appendix to our proposal, so that the Harvard
administration will be aware of exactly who is available to consult
on the project, and, hopefully, teach courses in the area.
We also will put this list of resources on South Asia onto this
World Wide Web page.
