Stephen Goldsmith, Professor of The Practice of Public Management, is a management consultant with Lockheed Martin IMS and a Special Advisor to President George W. Bush on faith-based and not-for-profit initiatives. He currently serves as Faculty Director of the Innovations in American Government Program, an Awards Competition of the Ford Foundation at the John F. Kennedy School of Government. Building on a rigorous, four-stage evaluation process, the Program confers broad public recognition on innovative government programs nationwide. While
serving two terms as Mayor of Indianapolis, Steve earned a
national reputation
for innovations in government. As Mayor of America's 12th largest
city, he reduced government spending, cut the city's bureaucracy,
held the line on taxes, eliminated counter-productive regulations,
and identified more than $400 million in savings. He reinvested
the savings by putting more police officers on the street and
implementing a $1.3 billion infrastructure improvement program
called "Building Better Neighborhoods." Indianapolis
enjoyed record-breaking job creation and set a record pace for
new construction under his leadership. Prior to his two terms
as Mayor he was Marion County District Attorney for 13 years.
Steve is also a Special Advisor to President Bush on faith-based
and not-for-profit initiatives and served as chief domestic policy
advisor to the Bush campaign. Currently he serves as a management
consultant for Lockheed Martin IMS and as Chairman of the Corporation
for National Service. |
