Why The San Diego Foundation builds Social Capital
The Social Capital Benchmark Survey furthers The San Diego Foundation's
Civil Society Program. The goal of this program is to build a stronger,
more inclusive and engaged region through the promotion of individual
and neighborhood participation.
The San Diego
Foundation's Civil Society Program Supports Social Capital in the following
ways:
How The Foundation
will continue to build Social Capital
The Foundation from 1998 through 2001 invested over $2.5 million to support
the following types of organizations in building social capital:
- Nonprofits
- Faith based institutions
- Grassroots neighborhood
groups and associations
Schools
- Universities and
other research institutions
- Other organizations
promoting Social Capital
The Foundation will continue to invest at least $350,000 to 1 million
per year to build social capital by supporting programs which promote:
- Community leadership
- Community philanthropy
- Neighbor-to-neighbor community building through dialogue and problem
solving
- Building of an inclusive community (immigrants/refugees, youth, seniors,
faith-based, etc.)
- Civic participation by all communities
