Josh Temblador, MPP '06 On His Work
With the U.S. Embassy, Colombo
|
Over the
summer I worked in U.S. Embassy Colombo with the political and
economic sections. During this internship I was given a lot of
responsibility mostly because so many officers, including the
economic officer, were on leave for almost my entire stay in Sri
Lanka.
My main responsibility at the embassy was to send a biweekly
tsunami reports back to Washington that updated the tsunami
taskforce on what was going on in the country and how the
rebuilding effort was progressing. To do this, I attended
government and donor group meetings along with interviewing
major players in the rebuilding process.
I also worked on negotiating a debt relief package to the
government of Sri Lanka from the U.S. and attempted to figure
out an efficient way for the U.S. to send tsunami aid to the
Maldives. Overall, working and living in Sri Lanka was amazing
and I would love to go back some day.
