Maldives

The damage to the Maldives from the Asian tsunami catastrophe is estimated at 4.8 billion dollars.  The official death toll in the Maldives is 82 killed and 26 still missing.  Given the dependency on tourism, the Government is extremely concerned about the medium to long term effects as much as the devastation left by the tsunami across the archipelago.
