Jerome L. Rappaport Sr./Boston Urban Fellowship
Since 1981, the "Jerome L. Rappaport, Sr./Boston Urban Fellowship" has provided full-tuition scholarships that have allowed more than 30 elected and appointed officials from greater Boston to attend the Kennedy School of Government's Mid-Career Master in Public Administration (MC/MPA) program. Candidates, who must also apply to and be accepted into the MC/MPA program, should demonstrate an interest in urban and metropolitan issues, and a capacity for leadership and a continuing commitment to contribute to the well being of the greater Boston area.

The fellowship is open to elected officials from throughout greater Boston (all communities in Suffolk, Middlesex, Norfolk, Essex, Franklin, Plymouth and Bristol counties). The fellowship is also open to appointed officials currently working for the City of Boston. Elected officials have the option of attending the Kennedy School as half-time students for two years. Appointed officials must be full-time students and must have a letter from the Mayor of Boston granting them a sabbatical leave. After graduation, appointed officials must return to public service in the greater Boston area for a minimum of two years.
Applications are accepted online at http://apply.embark.com/grad/harvard/ksg. Each program has a separate admissions procedure administered through the Admissions Office and you may only apply to one program in the same academic year.
To be eligible for the Jerome L. Rappaport, Sr./Boston Urban Fellowship, you must apply to the Mid-Career MPA program. Mid-Career MPA applicants are evaluated on academic achievement and the depth and quality of their experience, as demonstrated by work history, references and the applicant’s written analysis of past employment experience. Mid-Career applicants are required to enter the program with a minimum of seven years of full-time professional work experience. The Mid-Career MPA class has an average of thirteen years of professional work experience.
Applications must contain the following materials:
- Application fee of $80
- Admissions forms and essays found in the online Application for Admission
- Three recommendations from individuals who know you and your work
- Official transcripts from any college, university or graduate school you have attended
- GRE (Graduate Record Exam) or GMAT (Graduate Management Admissions Test) Test Scores
- Application for Financial Assistance
