Under the direction of Professor Anthony Saich, Asia Programs spans greater China, Japan and Vietnam and focuses on training of civil servants, applied policy research, strategic dialogue workshops, and institutional capacity building within Asia.

About the Program: The Fellows program allows individuals the freedom to design their time to pursue an independent research project, with the help of M-RCBG, Kennedy School and Harvard resources. Fellows may audit classes at any of the Harvard schools. Fellows will receive a certificate upon completion, but no degrees will be conferred. Appointments run from September 1 to January 15 and then from February 1 to June 15. Fellows can receive cubicle space, use of a computer and telephone as well access to libraries and other resources. As a residential fellowship, we expect fellows to reside in the Boston area and to have their primary office at the center so they can participate fully in the life of the community. (A limited number of non-residential fellowships are available) The program does not cover housing or living expenses.

Criteria and Expectations: Fellows must be fluent in both written and spoken English. Fellows will be expected to participate in Fellows research seminars and to produce at least a ten page written paper summarizing their research. Fellows are expected to be able to do independent research. Fellows are usually either government officials, or academics.

The Center cannot provide funding for fellowships, but others have funded their fellowship through the Fulbright Foundation, China Scholarship Council.
