“O.K., we are in Baghdad, what next?”–U.S. Army report on Iraq War released June 30

A U.S. Army report, released Monday, June 30, documents a number of problems that hampered the Army’s ability to stabilize the country during the postwar stage. It focuses on the 18 months after President Bush’s May 2003 announcement that major combat operations in Iraq were over. The study is based on 200 interviews conducted by military historians and includes long quotations from active or recently retired officers. The study’s authors were instructed not to shy away from controversy while withholding a final verdict on whether senior officials had made mistakes that decisively altered the course of the war. Listen to John D. Donahue Talk About the Warping of Government Work

Audio from the May 8th Library Speaker Series is now available.

The divergent paths of public and private employment have intensified a long-standing pattern: elite workers spurn public jobs, while less skilled workers cling to government work as a refuge from a harsh private economy. In this talk, John D. Donahue, Raymond Vernon Lecturer in Public Policy and Director of the Weil Program in Collaborative Governance at the Harvard Kennedy School, will analyze government’s isolation from the rest of the American economy and lay out the choices we have for narrowing, or accommodating, the divide between public and private work.

Researching Public Policy on the Internet as HKS Alumni

Library Services for HKS Alumni at Harvard
HKS alumni can get a special borrower card, valid only in the HKS Library, by filling out an application form available at the HKS Library circulation desk.

HKS alumni are also eligible for a Widener Library Stacks Access Card, which provides admittance to the stacks and the right to borrow up to six books a year from Widener, Lamont, Cabot Science, Harvard-Yenching, Pusey and Tozzer libraries. In order to borrow additional materials, it is necessary to purchase an HCL Special Borrower Card.

The Harvard libraries’ electronic resources, such as LexisNexis, Academic Search Premier, JSTOR, etc. can be accessed without a Harvard ID or PIN from the public computers in Harvard libraries. However, the University’s contracts with vendors restrict remote access only to people with valid Harvard ID’s and PIN’s.

ProQuest Online Information Service
