About Us

The Independent Caucus was founded in 2003 in order to promote public discussion and problem-solving across the boundaries of party and ideology and to provide independent-minded Kennedy School students a space for meaningful engagement with politics and public policy.  The Caucus also aims to study, create and disseminate innovative, non-partisan solutions to pressing problems facing society.
Membership is open to anyone regardless of their political background and viewpoints.  The Caucus only asks that participants in Caucus discussions adhere to its core principles, which include maintaining mutual respect and an open mind towards other viewpoints.

“I never submitted the whole system of my opinions to the creed of any party of men whatever in religion, in philosophy, in politics, or in anything else where I was capable of thinking for myself. Such addiction is the last degradation of a free and moral agent. If I could not go to heaven but with a party, I would not go there at all.”
—Thomas Jefferson
