A Look at the New Directors
In the past few months, a number of research centers and programs at the school have brought in new directors, some first timers to Harvard, others veterans who have worked or taught at the university for many years. Here’s a look at some of the most recent new appointments.
Fernande Raine joined the Carr Center for Human Rights Policy as the new executive director. She came to the school from Ashoka, a nonprofit organization that searches the world for social entrepreneurs and then invests in their ideas. Before she left, Raine successfully launched a social entrepreneurship program in Western Europe. Prior to her work with Ashoka, Raine consulted on strategic planning projects for foreign policy
institutions.
In August, Mark Rosenzweig was named director of the Center for International Development. Since 2002, he had been teaching at the school. Prior to that, he spent five years as chair of the economics department at the University of Pennsylvania, where his research included looking at the consequences of agricultural productivity increases for rural income growth and the formation and break-up of households in low-income rural areas. He is currently the editor of the Journal of Development Economics.
Kennedy School graduate David Luberoff MPA 1989 moved from the associate director’s position at the Taubman Center for State and Local Government to the executive director position at the Rappaport Institute for Greater Boston. Previously, he worked for the Boston Redevelopment Authority, editing its Midtown/ Cultural District Plan, wrote a column for Governing magazine, and was an editor at local newspapers in the Boston area, including the Boston TAB.
In September, Edward Glaeser took on two new roles: director of the school’s Taubman Center for State and Local Government and director of the Rappaport Institute for Greater Boston. Glaeser joined the Harvard faculty in 1992. His past teaching has focused on microeconomic theory and urban and social economics. He is also editor of the Quarterly Journal of Economics.
