Local Shopping

A farmers' market held each week from spring to late fall on the edge of the Kennedy School campus has become a popular way to shop for many in the school community. Local farmers offer fruits, vegetables, locally made cheeses, and baked goods not always found in larger supermarkets. And all of the offerings are grown or produced within a 60-mile radius of the Cambridge campus.

FACT
A 2003 Iowa State study on "food miles" (the distance food travels from field to plate) found that the average, conventionally grown broccoli traveled 1,846 miles. On average locally grown produce traveled 56 miles to market, compared with 1,494 miles for conventional-source produce.
