The Harvard PIN

A Harvard University PIN, in conjunction with your Harvard ID number, is strictly designed to confirm your identity as a Harvard University affiliate. The Harvard PIN will NOT log you on the the network in the Student Computer Lab or to the HKS Intranet. It is used largely for Harvard-wide websites and databases. The biggest exception to this is the Registrar's SMART registration system which currently used the PIN

How do I obtain a new PIN?

(If you have never had a PIN, have forgotten it, or have allowed it to expire) Go to the New PIN Request page. You will be asked to identify yourself by entering your Harvard ID number, last name, and date of birth. You may then choose to have your PIN delivered to you either by regular mail or through an email-based process. More information on the email process is available in a separate Frequently Asked Questions page. If you do not receive an email option, it is because there is no email address on file for you. In this case, a letter containing your PIN will be mailed to you by default.

If you know your current PIN and wish to change it:

Go to the PIN Change page. You will be asked to identify yourself by entering your Harvard ID number and current PIN. You may immediately enter a new PIN of your own choosing, and may change it as often as you like.

I used to have a PIN, but I've forgotten it. What do I do now?

If you’ve forgotten your PIN, you simply start over as though you never had one. Follow the directions above for requesting a new PIN.

I already have a password for my KSG email account. Do I still need a PIN?

Yes. Only the University PIN, issued by the PIN office, can be used for access to the Harvard's electronic resources.

What if I have a problem with getting or using my PIN?

First try the FAQ page on the PIN Web site http://www.pin.harvard.edu. If that doesn’t answer your question, you can contact the PIN help desk by phone (617) 496-9001 or email pin_help@harvard.edu.
