Please note that this page describes travel procedures for National Fellows and senior scholar participants only. Travel for undergraduate Galbraith Scholars is being coordinated separately by Katrin Kriz.
The Inequality Summer Institute sessions begin on Thursday, June 15 at 9:00 AM, and conclude on Friday, June 16 at 3:30 PM.
Given the early start time, we invite visitors to take advantage of a Wednesday night stay on June 14. (See hotel arrangements below).
For most participants, the most convenient option will be to have airline tickets charged directly to the Inequality program by booking the flight through the Harvard Travel Center. Harvard Travel is open Monday-Friday, 9:00-6:00 pm (EST).
The Harvard Travel Center may be reached toll-free by dialing (1-800-610-5640) and selecting option 4 (meeting events) from their automated menu. Provide the group code number for the Inequality Summer Institute. The agent will help authorized participants select a flight and then charge the purchase to the Inequality Program account.
Note: For security reasons, the group code number has been sent to invited participants via e-mail. Guests may contact inequality@harvard.edu to receive the group number again.
Guest rooms are being held in a rooming block at the Charles Hotel, which is adjacent to the Inequality Summer Institute meeting site at the Kennedy School of Government. The Inequality Program will be handling all hotel arrangements for invited guests and will provide the final guest rooming list to the Charles Hotel.

As noted above, the Inequality program will cover a two-night stay for invited participants for the nights of June 14 and June 15, 2006. Participants will receive an individual confirmation number of their reservation from the Inequality program.
Guest room and tax will be billed directly to the Inequality Program. Guests will be responsible for any incidental charges at check-out. Harvard travel policy does not permit reimbursement for personal expenses such as mini-bar charges, movies, laundry, personal phone calls, or in-room internet connections.
Check-in time is after 3:00 pm. Check-out is at noon. Guest may arrange to store luggage beyond 12:00 pm with the Hotel Concierge.
Participants can most easily arrange transportation to and from Boston's Logan airport on an individual basis upon arrival. We will provide an expense form so that participants may submit ground transportation expenses for reimbursement following the Inequality Summer Institute.
There are taxi stands at both Logan Airport and at the Charles Hotel itself, with waiting cabs readily available at most any time. The airport commute takes approximately 20-30 minutes under normal traffic conditions, or 45-55 minutes during rush hour. Flat rate fare, including tolls and 15% gratuity, ranges from $37.25 (non-rush)-$41.50 (rush-hour).
Boston's subway (the "T") now offers convenient service between Logan Airport and Harvard Square.
Passengers may pick up the Massport SILVER line shuttle bus to South Station outside any airport terminal. At South Station, passengers take the RED line Alewife train (i.e., inbound train). Harvard Square will be 6 stops from South Station.
Total commuting time to Harvard Square is 30-40 minutes. Fare is $1.25. (Exact change or T token required). The Charles Hotel is a 5 minute walk from Harvard station.
