Financial Health Resources

The John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University (HKS) initiated its first Financial Health Series in the 2006-2007 academic year to impart the essential elements to maintaining optimal financial health. Due to the success of the series, the series will continue 2007-2008. We hope that this programming will provide beneficial information for maximizing financial health.

For Spring 2008, the series will open with a tax workshop on presented by Jim Briggs, a retired IRS auditor shared his 25-year knowledge about the tax code, along with helpful information on how students should complete their taxes.

The Series will continue with the "ABCs of Credit" workshop presented by American Student Assistance.  Questions such as "How does your use of credit affect your credit score?" or "How can you improve your credit score now? " will be covered in the workshop.  Also included will be a comprehensive overview of what students need to know about credit and the credit industry so that that they learn how to make credit a friend instead of foe in the overwhelming world of personal finance, loans and debt.

"Financial Planning-Making the Most of your Money" presented by certified financial planner, Jennifer Lane of Compass Planning Associates, will be the third session topic of the Series.

The fourth session of the Series will be geared towards international student financial issues.

The final part of the Series includes Student Educational Debt Management: Loan Exit Counseling.
